What is Sewage?
To satisfy our day to day water need, (considering 135 liter/person/day usage (Indian Norms), our usage of water broadly distributed as mentioned in
Figure 1.
Once this water has been used for domestic tasks it drains down in the form of sewage. Basically, this Sewage water would be only 1% impurity and around 99% of water. This means that unknowingly we are wasting almost water and sending it to the drains even though it can be used for other purposes.
50% of the water that we use for Toilet flushing and gardening purposes does not require high-quality water. So, if we are able to recycle the water we had it can be utilized efficiently for these tasks. In brief, Sewage that we are talking about is just dirty water or fecal stuff that comes out from homes, factories and offices and moves through the sewers present.
When we go about analyzing its constituents the main considerations are its volume or rate of flow, physical condition, chemical and toxic constituents, and bacteriologic status (the organisms that are part of it and their weight). Sewage water has mostly just 1% impurities and that is composed of Organic matter, Suspended solids, Pathogens, and Oil & Grease.
The Pollutants found in Sewage water are generally analyzed by measuring parameters mentioned in Table 1.

What is a Sewage Treatment Plant System?
